Forming lasting partnerships with local churches and faith organizations so we can work together to build homes, communities and hope.
The Black Hills faith community is very diverse and vast, spreading across multiple denominational lines and including multiple faiths including Jewish, Unitarian, and Christian communities. Black Hills Area Habitat for Humanity has been blessed with the amount of support from the faith community. Our affiliate welcomes the participation of area churches and their congregations. The faith community is the backbone of the housing ministry. Faith communities of any size can partner with Black Hills Area Habitat for Humanity in a variety of ways:
Clergy Council – Be the leading voice of Habitat in the faith community by leading prayers at ground breakings, build sites or house dedications.
Church Builds – Participate in one of our church house sponsor programs to build a Habitat for Humanity house in the Black Hills. These church groups raise the money and provide the labor and prayer support to build a house in partnership with a local family.
Donate – Support Habitat through fund raising and offerings – become a financial partner – sponsor a roof, a room or a whole house. Donated goods and services are always needed—and appreciated. Pledge to donate unrestricted funds to Black Hills Area Habitat for Humanity every year. Donations may be tax deductible.
Display – Allow Black Hills Area Habitat for Humanity to place flyers, brochures, and other material inside your church. Share Black Hills Area Habitat for Humanity inserts in your bulletins.
Education & Advocacy – Tell the story about substandard housing and the mission of Habitat – in your church and in our community. Set aside days within the year to draw attention to the need for safe, affordable, decent housing. Host a Black Hills Area Habitat for Humanity representative to make a brief presentation to your congregation or set up an information table to help raise awareness and answer questions.
Family Support – Partner with families selected for a Habitat home. Tutor, mentor, and work alongside families as they prepare for homeownership through building and learning life skills.
Identify – Locate and recruit families in need of decent, affordable housing.
Pray – Pray continually for the work of Habitat; for safety on the jobsite, Habitat families, volunteers, donors and staff.
Serve – Provide lunches to our construction volunteers. Host out of town work crews and allow Black Hills Area Habitat for Humanity to use meeting rooms or social halls for gatherings and events.
Volunteer – Lend a hand building houses, volunteering at ReStore, serving on committees or helping in the office. Skilled and unskilled workers are welcome.
