We build strength, stability, and self-reliance through shelter.
Finding Home: Marcus’s Story
Marcus and his son have been anxiously awaiting the moment that they can move into their new affordable home. Currently, they are renting an apartment where they are continually exposed to second-hand smoke, mold and unpredictable rising rent. Marcus has been renting for many years, which has led to a lack of stability in his life as he has not been able to save adequately for emergencies and future medical needs. Now as the future homeowner of 613 Lemmon Avenue, the site of our current Faith Build, Marcus is on the verge of fulfilling one of his biggest dreams, and he couldn’t be more excited.
“I want a home for stability in my son’s life, as well as my own….I want my son to know that he has a place to come home to.” -Marcus
Home Repair: Bev’s Story
Bev has lived in her current home for many years, but it had fallen into disrepair. She wasn’t able to make the repairs on her own. Since partnering with Black Hills Area Habitat for Humanity, Bev has developed a relationship with the construction team. She looks forward to volunteering with Habitat in the future, and is so thankful for the work that has been completed on her home.
“My house feels like a home again. Every time I get up or come in from work, I feel like I’m home.”
We have many other committee opportunities! If you are interested in volunteering in any capacity, email firstname.lastname@example.org or call our office at 605-348-9196.
