Thank you for your interest in Black Hills Area Habitat for Humanity’s committees! We are always glad to have active and caring people involved in our organization. Varying levels of involvement are available—from chairperson to secretary to standing committee members. All meetings take place at the Habitat office unless otherwise specified. SPACE

Black Hills State University Campus Chapter:

Campus activities include advocacy, and volunteering.

Currently no specific meeting schedule.

Facilities Planning:

Committee members help with the planning of future building needs for the affiliate, including a new volunteer/administration training center.

Faith Relations:

Members develop relationships with churches in our service area and seek full involvement with each congregation in prayer, volunteering and funding.

Family Selection:

Members review all applications, review credit reports, conduct home visits to consider substandard housing need, and recommend partner families to the Board of Directors. They meet as needed and conduct the quarterly information meetings.

Informational meetings are held at Public Library, 10am Quarterly – Check the calendar for next meeting.

Family Support:

Members provide support to families as they progress through the Habitat partner family process. A family support member answers the family’s questions and encourages them throughout their time in the program, as well as monitors their progress with sweat equity hours and classroom participation. The relationship continues through the first year of home ownership and hopefully beyond.

Northern Hills Committee:

Serving the Spearfish/ Belle Fourche/ Lead-Deadwood communities. .

Resource Development:

Committee members focus on developing and monitoring the overall fundraising activities of the affiliate, including: generating corporate sponsorships; identifying new funding sources; recruiting new leaders to assist with events.

Meets the first Wednesday of the month @ 2:00 p.m. at Habitat office

ReStore Committee:

Members oversee operations of the ReStore retail facility, located at 610 East Omaha Street.

Site Selection:

Members utilize their expertise to determine if property is appropriate for construction of Habitat homes. The committee works in conjunction with the construction committee, and is always looking for and soliciting property.

Southern Hills Committee:

Serving the city of Custer.

Veterans Build:

Members utilize their expertise to perform veterans outreach in the community and organize veteran & military family oriented events..

We hope to establish the following committee(s) in our area:

Public Relations & Special Events: The goal of this committee is to be responsible for media relations, website, newsletter, signage, public speaking, educational booth events etc. Also provide guidance with hands-on event coordination for: Habitat Christmas Concert, Shows, Expos, and new event ideas.
