Church Build Days are days set aside and prescheduled for entire congregations to serve with Black Hills Area Habitat for Humanity at the same time. It is a day of fellowship and service that allows the congregation to put their faith in action and demonstrate to the local community the love of God.
Thrivent Builds with Habitat for Humanity is a multi-year, multi-million dollar partnership between Thrivent Financial and Habitat for Humanity International. Thrivent Builds is designed to involve Thrivent members in helping provide a “hand up” to people in need of affordable housing, offering them a path to greater economic independence.
Thrivent Financial is a not-for-profit, Fortune 500 financial services membership organization helping approximately 2.5 million members achieve financial security and give back to their communities. Thrivent Financial and its affiliates offer a broad range of financial products and services. As a not-for-profit organization, Thrivent Financial creates and supports national outreach programs and activities that help congregations, schools, charitable organizations and individuals in need.
Excluding government funding, Thrivent Builds with Habitat for Humanity is Habitat’s largest single source of funding. With Black Hills Area Habitat for Humanity with Thrivent Financial, 12 Habitat homes have been completed in the Black Hills.
The Apostles Build is an ecumenical church build involving a group of churches that agree to partner with Black Hills Area Habitat for Humanity and each other to build a Habitat home in the Black Hills Area over the course of 1-year. Each church raises funds for the home and commits to providing prayers, volunteers, in-kind contributions and relational support for Habitat homeowners through this partnership.
As Jesus’ original apostles were charged with spreading the good news, our apostle churches are charged with being the hands and feet of Jesus in providing decent shelter for God’s children.
The cost and construction of the home is divided among all the “apostle” churches. Each church will provide volunteers for approximately 3 construction days and a contact person from each church will serve as a church liaison on the Apostles Build Steering Committee.
Please contact our office at (605) 348-9196 if your church is interested in participating in the next Apostles Build.
Black Hills Area Habitat for Humanity sets aside days in the year and invites pastors to build with us. This is a perfect time for area pastors to pick up a hammer and put their faith into action. This is a time of great fellowship and joy as they show the love of Jesus Christ through their selfless and humble act of service.
If you are a pastor or clergy member and would like to participate in a future Pastors Build Day, please contact Black Hills Area Habitat office phone (605) 348-9196, or by e-mail.
